Started putting this together because the guild asked for more lap quilt suitable for men. Most of the red, white and blue fabrics go towards the Quilts of Valor project, which doesn’t leave a lot left to work with. But I knew I had some leftovers in my stash from another old project, and once I started pulling things out of corners and boxes there was quite a bit to work with.
I cut 2 sizes of strips, 2.5″ — because I had a bunch of those already cut and that’s the size of my cutter — and 4.5×8.5″ rectangles. Two strips and two rectangles make a block. It’s pretty easy to sew together and went quick.
The hardest parts were arranging the segments, and keeping them oriented properly when sewing. I had a limited amount of red, and I wanted that to be a bold center accent. Then I arranged the other lights and darks around that. If you look carefully you can spot my mistake during assembly. Unfortunately I did not see it until I had the border on, so it did not get fixed. Despite that I think it came out well for something I threw together quickly.
